The Attic is the perfect venue with an inviting and fun atmosphere for new and old stand-up performers wanting to test out their material.

Can I Have A Word? An evening of Spoken Word and Laughter in the New Forest

An evening of rhyme, rhythm, and truth — all under one mic.

Welcome to a night where words take flight, hearts beat to the rhythm of verse, where tears and laughter mingle with applause. We invite local poets and spoken word artists to perform their work - it's the next step up from an 'Open Mic'.

Open Mic nights are where the story starts, and "Can I Have A Word" is where legends begin: Every performer has that first time — the shaky breath, the thud of nerves, the light in your eyes as you face the crowd. This is where future poetry champions properly take the plunge. No filters. No smoke machines. Just you, your truth, and an audience eager to hear it.

Whether you're a seasoned poet or a napkin scribbler, whether new to the scene or an old hand with new material, you are welcome. Make our stage part of your origin story. 

Don’t worry — whether you read from the page, spit rhymes from memory, or freestyle your way through fear, the mic is open... and so are we.

We expect to fill slots well in advance of the night. Don't just turn up and hope to be able to perform - register here in advance.

Spoken Word at The Attic in Southampton

Spoken Word pieces won’t always be heavy... although they may be. Expect laughs — the belly kind, the awkward kind, the clever kind. Between witty wordplay and hilarious life observations, this event will leave you grinning, crying (in a good way) and revelling in the beauty of words.
